Can anyone tell me what a tape delay is?

it's an analog effect device which creates echoes by recording a signal onto a tape like a tape recorder with a write head and listening to the tape at the same time using a second head which is used for listening only. <BR>The delay between incoming and outgoing signal occurs because the write and read heads are a few inches apart. <BR>repeating delays are generated by looping back the output signal to the input and mixing it with the original input signal.
