HM! SOOOOOOOO?????
are you getting it or are you just blah-blahing???
I am shopping around finally for some new multi-card for my newer computer. And I am really puzzling, because too much choice...
I don't want to spend tooo much money and I don't want to end-up with something crappy...and I don't want to buy some system which is filled with all kind of crap I don't want nor ever be using. You see this e-mu system looks like got all sorts of sh*t ... grrrrrrrrr
Man, this 'presentation sucks big time....this dude should be fired ..heh heh ..., and put down freaking guitar...brrrrr, I hate when professionals are trying to be cool instead of being professional.... the result is - non, and he's not cool nor pro... "this is really cool...this is gonna'blow your mind and shit like that,,,, " heh heh , lol,
********
anyway, this system looks like good deal for money ..., I don't care bout sampler.... I just want interface....
*****
ok, the "presentation is over" - it was a waste of time watching.... this guy sucked ...lol, and so did the presentation. The product is pretty good from what I can read.
New product, thou.... you never know...there's no much data , reviews around.... and "Creative"-brand always scare sh*t out of me ...;-)

/respects,
/mz aka Dr. ZEE

Don´t mind the sales persons, the video´s did
have some info´s not given on emu´s site NG´s
gave me info as well, bla bla in the sense of
speaking to one self (why I redraw a little)

Why are you so negative on the sampler ? it
sure makes your hardware-sampler look like a
toy, and with the hardware I/O´s provided it
integrates with you´r desk etc in all way´s.
some time you would have a new computer and
then you have a kick-ass system, with full
integration, yes the price is ok even without
the sampler, but don´t underestimate emu,
consider the sampler a sound-modul at least,
You have 2 G-byte of sounds bundeled, mainly
proteus and other classic´s from their lib.
In fact I love emu/ensonic happen to own an
old KS-32, still love the sounds, and would
like to have more emu-stuff or CD´s, this
new sampler read there old lib´s I am sure

You should also not disrespect the dsp-boosted
effects before you heard them, the algorithms
from the e-mu samplers are buitfull, they know
a thing or two about effect´s, likely used
in this product

I don´t go out bye something first day, but
yes this is sure on the observerlist next
6-12 mounth´s, then i bye when it is proven,
In case you also bye we might be able to
exchange programs etc.

btw. mike if I pay you would you bye me some
stuff only available in the US, I am poor now
just bought an UC-33e controller :-), but later
I would like some e-mu CD´s from there their
web-shop, only maybe, and in case I bye this
card ?

HM

Henrik, I'm not being negative about the sampler. I just don't need it...and I mean it. This sampler after you really dig through the software and!!!! if your computer can handle it - may be much much better than any hardware sampler.... but I simply know that I will not find much of use of it... it's just has gone out of my field of interest from producer point. I am more interested in trying to play instruments...and if I need some synth or drums sequensing...i've got enough using what I already have. Sound library is always cool to have...but then again... I've collected the whole bunch of sample CDs over years...it's more than I ever may need, and I don't really need much...just some useful basic sounds. As for synth... It's just me. I've lost interest in new and cool electronic sounds...they all boring to me. I am more interested in getting something like old Fender Real Rhods stage piano...and play it and record. To get a real H-Organ would be better than sex ...heh heh
BTW E-MU samples collection usually great.
But again, the last thing on earth I want to do now is to seat infront of computer screen editing samples, configuring plugin etc etc.... I'm just soooooooooooooo freakin' sick of computer...but I'm forced to work with computer every day ...

So, however, I've figured that it's kind of dumb not to use 40+20Gig drive and Pentium-4 of my computer and not to use it as digital multitrack recorder with all the editing gismoz. So what I'm looking is to get at least 8 analog outs for the minimum possible $$$$$, but I don't want to pay anything for crappy stuff. I've learned my lessons.... you may save $200 or so, and then will be dealing with piece of sh*t.

Speaking of being poor. Heh -heh ... I should not of think about buying anything at the moment...
And on my list there are two most important items at the moment: guitar amp and somewhat good condenser mic. Then I'll be thinking about other stuff ..if ever.
*******I'd be happy to help you to get stuff from e-mu site. no-problem. Kind of strange thou that they would not ship outside of US. very strange. but don't they have some special sites like in Europe , Japan etc...?
ok, man, bu e-mail me if you ever need something, don't post here,
and to be sure that I get your e-mail start by sending me a note from my web-site contact page. I'm not posting my main e-mail address anywhere (spam protection ), so use this page: http://www.mzentertainment.com/contact.htm
, then I can reply to you with my address.
******
also if you find any user-reviews on this e-mu system, drop a note here. I am kind of keepin' eye on it also...but at the moment there's nothing yet available, only promos....

later, man,
/mz aka Dr ZEE

First thanks for the kindness eventually to help

What you say I understand very easy, enough some
times enough, wish you every luck with your new
guitar, but it is a callenge also start playing
again, or first time on a real instrument,. and
not easyer the older you get :-) and yet in my
case patience, concentration, ability to prior,
has increased, and rehersal time can be plessure

But not feed with samplers etc. yet :-) happens
to like UK-dub and some dancehall / ragga also,
besides I intend to finish what I started with
the multi PC concept, mutitracking has already
proved fine, but also congas and piano will
have high priority, hopefully private-lesson
from time to time, real bass also, drums by
my brother when I have finshed the set, most
parts provided now, handfull good mic´s also

Trouble now is more time than money I guess

Much to finish, so I also decided to stay
still on Cubase VST, not upgrading to SX2.0
VST5.2 is very proven and solid and enough,

But can´t imagine non-DAW work enymore :-)

HM

But can´t imagine non-DAW work enymore :-)

hah... noway, man... no need for such 'imagination.
Not to use computer in studio one way or the other is kind of crazy, I must say.
What I am trying to get to ..I guess..trying to explain... ;), IS, that I am trying to sort of keep distance, or better say more 'healthy balance between technology and performance, between perfectionizm and looseness of expression.
You see, part of the problem I think may be hidden in the fact that we are trying to be a one-guy-do-it-all, and like it or not, but we have limitations (energy, human resources). What am I talking about??? heh heh...
I've noticed that when I'm diggin deepper into production/technical side (especially when it comes to working with computer-based tools), I have less and less creative energy left. It would be nice if you could just write music, play instruments etc ,,,and let somebody else to take care of production.
This is actually a part of the reason why I rely on hardware setup so much. It gives me maybe illusional sense of freedom... you have large easy to reach play/record buttons on recorder, punch-in pedal-swith, real sliders on mixer....
So, well, turning computer into digital multi-track - this just makes perfect sense.
I've just received Sonar-3.... heh heh finally , the first upgrade since Cakewalk6.0. Also it cast me to upgrade "only" $150.
So now I have the soft part.... don't have any good soundcard on my W-XP system...and got no cash at the moment.
Sonar looks good, and totally freakin' different from Cakewalk...so I guess it's like olmost learning totally new software...pain ina'A*ss.
*******

btw, I was reading something at Cakewalk site...and remeber seeing a note, regarding ordering stuff from Europe. It looks like there is something to do with som New Tax-Laws at EU ...or something like that...and it is why they can not ship outside of US... well, I am not sure exactly what's the deal.... Cakewalk has some special sites for European countries.... I don't know if E-MU does...
again, let me know by e-mail if you really really can not order something ....

/later,
respects,
MZ aka Dr. ZEE

In EU E-mu is sold to very high prices through
import-agents-shops usual food-chain, stuff I
am maybe after would likely cost the tripple
cash, contrary US favorize own home-market yes
"free market" evangelist´s ina action ;-) any-
way some items end up in a extreme prize-span
and in this case the libraryes are not even
available in EU, they are very cheap even for
US standards I guess, and dollar is VERY low
compared to euro these days,......

Anyway since the new Emulator-X are sold with
2 GB bundeled lib with "classical" emu sounds
it might be smart to sniff up info about this
library before evt. bying further cd-rom´s

btw available here already it seems

and keeping informed there is a longer thread
on a SOS forum, and a new yahoo group started

Congratulation having Sonar 3 it seems real
nice, I have followed at a distance, many
troubles, but matured a lot, VSTi and output
assignability especially,....

Tell me do you ever consider to work with
other artist´s ? would using a toll like
sonar, based on wave-files not make it 100
times easyer to exchange tracks or loops ?

The "one-man-do-all" consideration is true
but it is also a part of game, and helps put
the vampires to rest in their graves I hope,
a bit pioneer spirit, so you avoidet to many
PC problems so far, but I guess you spent
MANY, MANY, hours doing you´r home-site,
scary masks or not it looks very profesional
You did it self right ? Dreamweaver ?

HM

Guess that a live or audigy would serve you very
vell as temporary solution, until you can afford
and decide for the right card,. just avoidt ANY
creative original drivers, and install the WDM-
ASIO drivers found here

Low-Latency operation, two analog inputs and
6 analog out plus 2 s/pdif out

Even a old seccond hand 15$ Live 1024 would
likely provide you a fine temporary solution,
no stress to bye expensive stuff NOW and get
started use sonar NOW, SF-support/ surround

In you are real broke I send you a card

HM

HM, first of all thanks bunch for card offer. But, man, I am not that badly broke, so can't afford some cheap card.... But I'm not gonna do it. If I really really deadly need to use sonar now, I can figure it out. It's not a live/death situation.. you know. I still have my old system working just fine, I have 8-digital tracks (Akai-DR4s) synchronized with 8-midi-port system, driven by computer sequencer, which also has very good quality 2in/out Digidesign-Audiomedia-III card. Sonar can wait, also will give me time to play with software to get used to interface. My new comuter has some generic soundcard, which is just fine for learning the software.... and I actually can use sonar's tools to do some productive stuff "inside computer", meaning importing /exporting files. I just can not at the moment to do any midi-sequencing and don't have any good pro-quality audio-in/out.
Tell me do you ever consider to work with
other artist´s ? would using a toll like
sonar, based on wave-files not make it 100
times easyer to exchange tracks or loops ?

I use to allot. Nothing currently. Used to use wav format as 'exchange/colab' format for many years... since Cakewalk 4.0 I remeber , before CD-Rs became available.... ZIP-Drive was the hottest thing..heh heh heh .... so in older cakewalk you can export audio recording/takes and also have a start position with frame-accuracy. So you exporst audio-takes as wav file, then write the file to ZIP-disc (should be no lager than 100MB tatal), then snail-mail the ZIP ...so the other artist import this wav-take from zip into Cakewalk project into specified start-point position. The project file back then could be easylly sent by e-mail, but any audio takes has to go separatly on the ground in the box...heh heh
*****
Yeah man, speaking of doing everything by yourself... there IS a beauty in it, cos you simply completely 100% independent. An the other hand, working with other artist/or producer in the studio always a boost to experience/knowledge and even inspiration.
My site is a very simple creation. nothing really fancy there.... and only two tools ...text editor for html and Corel 8.0 for graphics. My site is very primitive for today's standards ..;-).

/mz

Guess you should just take a good long time to
decide what you need, 8 outputs you say, that
does not need to be expensive,.. then in case
you play with a friend, or two, 8 input does
also not need to ruin you, my brother has my
old MARC-8 good with new drivers and
possible to find cheap seccond hand at least
<A HREF="http://www.netzmarkt.de/thomann/thoiw2_ ... -88-oem even a bargain as new,
just these two examples becourse it does not
need be expensive having more than two inputs

Emu 1212 have only two I/O, and larger models
much more than two examples, but A/D´s better

Sonar usergroup must be the place to confirm
speccific cards being well-workin with sonar

but Sonar could be used right ahead midi only

Yes working with other´s is nice mostly

For graphic editor I asked becourse I am able
to have one of those expensive dreamweaver
courses almost free (artist tradeunion) all
tell how "easy" it is, anyway I will finish
my site now with the very easy "sitebuilder"
provided by surftown, got me at least started
now a few ears before I had expected, and I
know it well enough to say that basic-functions
will meet my needs, I use PSP etc additionary,
and give one and a half dollar a mounth :-)
for quick-line hosting, sitebuilder, + 125 MB

Things work´s always I am surprised/possitive

Would love to work more with web-design, but
it´s the "everything-man" over again :-)

But maybe Later, I did read some books and
seamingly it would be easy with the cheap new
DSL-lines to configure cheap and VERY large
servers, with possibility to create hole
new on-line record-labels, included the
part that deals with card-payment, without
feeding expensive consultans

Personally I don´t believe a new mastodont
like MP3-com soon, but the many smaller sites
to consolidate, I had expected ampcast to take
over but it seems not :-)

HM

Henrik, your site looks very nice. Finish unfinished areas...well maybe add some visuals (not really important thou..)...maybe.
Speaking on on-line self-managed store. It is very duable nowdays. You can actually get your own card-processing...but it is not free...and the most what scares sh*t out of me is 'security' stuff...hakers ...grrrrrrrrrrr, I just don't want to deal with this. I am using now iPowerWeb as site host. $8/month/1 year - gives 80Megs space and 40Gigs/month bandwidth (bandwidth is important thing, man, especially if you want to have some audio downloads/streaming and if you get any good traffic), and this service also gives you few e-commerce easy-to-add options... PayPal is most easy ..but people kind of don't like it ...well some people ...
OMD-sites ??? heh heh ...no way in hell. NO-MO'!!!! I've got enough of it. Sites like mp3.com , ampcast etc etc... they all had their time. They actually did do some good for independent producrs/musicians... but now its all history, man... You gotta be on yourown. You still can use some of them by submitting couple of "promo-tracks" and then advise visitor to go to your site for 'The Rest Of The Story'

Thanks for links and thought s on card sollution... , well, here's a news from me. I'm not going to get any card anytime soon now...heh heh.
Here's what happened. I've just came back from local music store...finally took a drive a few miles away and btw to see couple of my friends, working there, have not seen for at least a year or so.
And I've found there something I just could not refuse. I've got used in very good working shape and cosmeticly nice Fender DeVille 212 /Hot Rod /two speaker/ all tubes/ real-Fender Spring /combo-amp!!!!!!!!! for just $375!!!!!!! How could I refuse, man.?! This thing is sooo sweet. I also got Shure sm57 mic and btw by a nice accedent found and picked up and extra "piece of junk" for $20 - an empty MESA-engeneering, looking like Nomad-100amp - head, it's a cool looking empty-head, with nothing in it BUT!!!!! with a nice accutronics spring - still there hehe heh.... so guess I've got a good starting point/base for a new project ..lol
Well, so I am now pretty much all set to Rock The damn cruel world.
So, cos I had to put this on my credit card now... and I must NOT do shopping for a while now or I may endup being very very sorry as* at the end.
So for now I'll keep my head cool and forget for a while about 'buying anything' ...and try to spend some time on restoring sense of playing guitar throguh a real amp...it's very different I must say. Amp is a part of instrument in a sense...
...arghhhh, my wife is gonna kill me:

/later,
/mz aka Dr ZEE

Hi, back again after 3 days work,. you see I
decided not to depend my living on music as
it would be very destructive I guess in some
senses,... I had the oportunety sinces start
this year to "restructure" my life,. sell my
car, humble down a minimum, I clean stairs 3
day´s a week, hard like hell, but then again
I am free in 4 days,. studio almost finished
everythin is payed for,.. I can maintain all
things own hand, and I will not find my self
doing stupid comercials or play to weddings
in orde to feed the bank,.... So being paid
eventually sometimes in the future is not a
a must,. I can pick up the projects I like,
this allows me a better athmosphere to work
in, If I loose my job I´m insured few years
Actually having two parralel incomes would
be very troublesome,. social welfare is
in case you are unimploid, and the system
is very "stiff", if you have just a little
personal income you would be considered not
to be unimploid and you would be fucked up

System here is very apart from US i spare
you further details :-)

Being a studio-owner is bad buissiness also
here, one more reason keep it non commercial

Off course i would like to be paid some day,
but that has to do with "respect", anyway if
I can participate braking the vampires by
releasing free music it´s ok,.. people say
"support the artist, bye the official CD´s"
that is bull-shit, I know who get 80-90 pct,
and I don´t feel sorry if todays stars are
going to hell alongside their multinational
blood-sucker´s, their alliance is un-holy

We concider making kinda foundation, and
sell this way to keep it out of the private,
anyway only a little sale can be expected
and might as well be donated to some good
purpose as well

Believe it or not Surftown traffic is free
as long as there is not "heavy" loads, and
i don´t expect that many loads, and like
mentioned I could just setup a server on my
own DSL connection and link to this, 512
kb/s in upload for a little extra price
enough to ensure a few people to download
at once, due to worldwide time-span this
is actually enough even to average traffic

And again traffic is free on your own server

The old windows 98 actually can be set up
as server relatively easy, a old PC would
do, ADSL i will have for private use anyway
128 kb upload now, 512 kb/S fore a little
extra, and even 2 Mb/s without ruin me :-)

I hope you´r still alive and your wife did
forgive you stealing her credit card :-)

The library got hand-books in bad excuses

Do you have the knowledge to build PCB for
the spring-tank ? guess there is many links
to circuit diagrams in previous postings, be
aware the output impedance as mentioned

HM

Sold your car? how do you move now ????
In the place I live there's no life without car...
man, you "system" sounds like a 'trap' to me... well, this may swing into needless political discussion ..lol ;)
building P with control(s) for spring would be nice... but I don't see how can I find time for this... still work to make living...and the rest of time at least to try to play something/compose/record... very little time next to zerro for projects.
I managed to make spring tank actually working, simply by patching direct-out of mixer's chnl (instrument i want to send through the spring) to input of the next chnl(assign to non)-direct out to spring-spring out to next mixer's chnl(assigned to non)-direct out of this chnl-to next chnl(assigned to main (or group)...., so basicly it takes three channels, two of them acting like preamp with eq on input/and output of the spring.... I had to turn gain almost all the way up... noise is manageable....... with this chain it's sounds just fine for dubbing on the fly

i'll be back to blah more here...
later,
/mz aka dr.zee

wow! I rule! heh heh ;-)...well, not really, but god bless earthvegaconnection.com and the guy who creates w-xp driver for opcode 8-port/se ! Worth every dollar ($21) to pay for the driver. So now I've got sonar working with my midi-studio, and I also managed to get audiomedia-III out of old computer and installed it...and digidesign simply rocks for support of their old hardware ...cool! it works with sonar and xp-driver just fine, full duplex, plus hi resolution, plus I actually can get 4chnls out of it using digital out and analog out the same time...i just need to send it through akai d/a converter...so I can mix 4 audio-tracks on analog mixer...if I really wish to add some old school flavor to the mix/or dubbin'...
Well, my situation isn't perfect...but at least it's better than nothing without going completely into creadit-card death-trap ....
still getting around sonar. man, it got some really cool and serious composing tools... guitar fret-view in staf-view is totally great. it was so much pain figuring out note positions of some twisty-compositions...and chord-analyzer! wow... real help. Well, if you never care about 'writing' playable music, then it does not mean a thing... heh heh
blah blah...
gotta go,
later,
/respects,
/mz aka dr.zee
