Hi,can anyone give me any info on a Melos Tape Echo.I know it has an 8 track cartridge in it but thats all i know.I have just bought it on Ebay but not yet delivered.In the 60's i used a Dynacord for recording and for the last 20 years have had a Roland RE 501 that now has a motor problem.I bought an Akai Headrush to replace it but i cant play the same without the sound on sound

Hi,Well the Melos Tape Echo arrived minus the tape cartridge and i can see now its not an 8 track but is about 2.5 x 3.5 ins in size Can any one give me a clue where i might get a cartridge ?

hi. i think it use appolon tape cartridge same as in univox tape delay. try to find such cartridge and feed with normal tape cassette not chrome. hope it help.

Hello - did you have any luck getting hold of a tape for your Melos Echo Chamber? Have just found one, but I think the old tape has had it and am trying to replace it. Any ideas?

i've just got a melos echo chamber from a friend, with a (defective) cartridge - so i'm looking for those as well.

if it helps, the defective cartridge is (indeed) an apollon "recording tape", type "HD 5000".

I have a melos tape cart. It's brand new and I've been trying to buy a melos echo to put it in for years. I used one years back and it was nice but then I'd never heard a space echo back then! Joy division used one to process their Arp Omni. Would anyone wnat to sell the unit to me?

Is it possible to open the cartridge and replace the tape? I'm looking at buying a melos and don't have a cartridge to view. Is the tape 1/4 inch or cassette size?

I also am looking for a spare cartridge , but mine is for a univox 80 . There is a dictaphone cartridge that is very simialar that was used in another unit and I have heard it works in a univox ,so maybe that would work in the melos , but those also are about impossible to find

Hi,

i have a Melos Echo unit.

It is possible to open the cartridge and replace the tape with some from a normal cassette which i have done.The join needs to be perfect.
Sounds okay.

Hi. Anything about Melos echo chamber tapes? I have a Melos with a tape also but the tape broke somehow and i couldnt work out how to re thead it. either some help with rethreading or somewhere to get a new tape would be awesome. thanks.

I have a Melos too with a worn out apollon cartridge. The problem with this cartridge is not the tape itself, but the two pieces of foam beneath the felt strips in the cassette on the head locations. The foam desintegrated due to age, thus not pressing the tape on the heads.

I refurbished the two foam pieces but I did not manage to get the tape back in correctly.
Somehow the tape does not peel the bottom part
from the carrier inside and got stuck.

I'll try again with a clean fresh piece of tape

I also pulled the PCB because I thought it was an electronic problem, and put it on scanner and did a partial redraw of the schematics.

After some measurements I found that it was working correctly. The tape not passing correctly along the heads was the real problem.

theres a guy on Ebay selling 2 cartridges starting at £30... thats all i can find tho. a HOW TO on making your own loop would be great
