hi!
i don't understand the use of this device for bass. what are the typical settings. as ervery dubber i'm looking for the perfect bassline...

very generally:
An envelope follower takes an audio input and converts it into a control voltage. This control voltage will rise and fall with the overall volume of the input signal. So as you can see CV can be used for what ever.... in a sence you can look at EF as sort of "synchronizer" between player's moves and the effect which is being applied on the signal which comes out of playing in real time

Which "device" do you actually have? Pedal? Which one?

Adjust the threshold so it doesn't open. Blend with original signal for massive low end. Works with most pedals. Tubby never needed it :-).

I'm not a bass guitar player i program my basslines with virtual synths. I wonder if an envelope follower plugin could help me to have a better sound.

so what exactly device do you have and how (what setup) do use it or trying to use?
Give the guys some idea about what is it exactly goin on with you. Or do you just want somebody write an educational book for you covering all sorts of situations?

Technically speaking envelope follower is a "converter" ...then it's all depends on what the design of the device is.... it can be anything... any effect/filter which can be 'driven' by VC ....
If you have some pedal...those mostly designed for guitar/or bass guitar players.... the whole idea is to "convert" the dynamics of playing into some "cool" effect... commonly wah-wah like /funk wah effect.
Envelope follower is also very useful device in sound-design. Here's example ...something to read...: by Eric Charles

yes i wasn't very clear.so i use a vst plugin called quadfromage by ohmforce. There is an envelope follower integrated and all sorts of filters.I use it to filter my basslines and sometimes i try the EV but there is no diferences with or without.The EV has a classical ADSR env ,a sensitivity knob and of course we can choose the input. I know that this device use an input signal and modulate it.But in my opinion bass frequencies are not sufficiently powerful signals as would be a snare for example. I noticed that it works much better with percussive sounds.

I guess you've got there bunch of EFs to controll what ever is there...filters I gues. Again EF is a block in such a "device" as you have. This sis a software, and really you have to have/use/know it to talk about.
Anybody here using this one? speak out.

hmmm, i'm not sure what exactly do you mean by 'powerful' ..heh heh ;)
Your bass sounds may have no dynamics. Try to create some base-line/sequence with wide dynamics....and see how it goes

yes i've never had a hardware EV in hands.I'm forced to use a computer to make dub, it's borrying but "on fait avec les moyens du bord" for those who understand french.I just try to explore new techniques.thanks for your advises.

Don´t underestimate native fiters mrmc, I have
far better mid-range filter-sweeps comming out
from my Ohm-Force filter than a desk could do,
like the digital algorithms in emu´s z-planes
not even a sherman filterbank could do this,.
