I just got an SRE-555 in the mail yesterday, and I'm very happy with the unit. I've been using a DOD FX96 for a while, and while it sounds nice, there's just no comparison. That said, here are some issues I'm having...

1. REVERB! When I turn up the reverb, a humming buzz (or is it a buzzing hum

) gets louder and louder the more I turn. Rolling off the treble solves the problem, but that's hardly a solution. Does this sound like something I could fix myself? Anything beyond blowing some compressed air in there might lead to me destroying the thing as I have no mechanical aptitude. Does anyone know of somewhere in the northeastern US where it could be serviced?

2. CHORUS! I don't know if the chorus unit is broken, but turning it all the way up seemed to have a negligible effect, maybe a little pitch shifting on higher freqs. Is this my unit, or do other owners find this to be the case as well?

3. TAPE! Last night I was experimenting with self-oscillation, adjusting the intensity, repeat rate, and echo mode. Not being rough, just seeing what would happen. Well the tape snapped. Is it just an old tape, or did I push it too hard? Are there things I should NOT do to avoid this?

Finally, if anyone could point me to a sight with maintenance tips, etc. I would greatly appreciate.

your questions are very specific, specific technical situations/problems with specific vintage gear. Tough stuff. You see, this is dub music and production discussion board, not really technical equipment sevice specialist's board. Couple of guys here may know more or less about it, but again, not about every piece of gear on earth. If I had this unit , then I personally may have something to say...but I never had one...so simply don't know the answer..nor any tip(s).
To find out some specific technical info about specific gear you may be better off by searching google.com or other search sources...same goes about finding local service center/lab.
