Do you guys think is possible to do a live dub performance with Traktor from Native Instruments and a good mixer with onboard effects? This is what I was thinking: mixing mp3 dub files with traktor, cutting different frequencies and enhancing anothers while applying the effects from the mixer to the audio thats comes from the laptop. While that maybe having some live vocals conected directly to the mixer, to wich I could apply some effects to. Do you think is possible? Was I clear enough? Do you guys know some good mixer (no to expensive, just to start) with wich I could work with (mixer with delay, reverb & maybe a phaser that I can use alone or together in each channel)?

Sory, I have no idea 'bout Tracktor.
All major mixers makers now have their version of some boards with bilt in digital effects. I never heard a one single pro review, which would mantion that any of those built-in effects are great. But they are somewhat cheapy and somewhat generally useful...and usually not much there included, just some basic most popular effects.
I know behringer has few models ob mixers with effects, and they are ok quality boards and not expansive (example : Eurorack UB2442FX-PRO, goes for around $300 or so new). Mackie also have mixers with effects, but not cheap....good boards thou....

What would you advice then to play mp3's live and add some live vocals with effects (delay, reverb & maybe phaser?

Or maybe a different way to acomplish what I want.

I don't know really what to advise. I am cakewalk/sonar user (do pretty much everything there). I don't have much good experience with other software platforms. If you mean to play mp3s from computer during your show, ACID (Soundforge/Sony) comes to mind...you can even use cheaper Screenblast ACID version.... there you drag and drop mp3 files/takes (or .wav files..or both)...which 'creats' tracks on your screen... you can quickly move tracks/takes/samples around, adjust tempo, fade/x-fade, cut/edit takes, apply some real-time effects etc....
Now, if you wish to play your 'stuff' from computer and do on-the-fly (live) mixing and dubbing on hardware mixing board, then you must have multi-channel soundcard and also the software you are using must have option letting you to assign tracks to different outputs of your sound card (or box/system).
What's your computer system? Sound card? What other software do you have/use?

I have a pentium 4 2.6Ghz, with 521 Mb Ram,running windows XP,soundcard is a onboard that came with the laptop. I have Reason 2.5, Ableton Live and Native Instruments Reaktor. I want to buy equiment to play live, that's why I'm doing all this questions. And thanks for answering :). I know that for a live performance a really need a midi controller. But since I want to play my 'stuff' from computer and do on-the-fly (live) mixing and dubbing (like you wrote), I need to know more exactly what should I buy. For midi controller I was thinking in buying the Edirol PCR-30, wich is a keyboard too (so I can use it for production). But if i need a better soundcard maybe the PCR-A30 (same controller but with a soundcard with 1 output & 1 input). Since I want to use vocals live too & was thinking in adding effects to the vocals with a mixer with onboard effects. The overall idea is to mix mp3's adding effects and live vocals with effects too. I was thinking that the easy way to do this was with a mixer and the PCR-A30. Off course with only that soundcard I could only apply effects to the overall mp3 and not only to drums or guitar for example. But what I really want to do is to apply effects to the vocals, but I'm don't know if the effects from a mixer could do the trick since I need to combine at least reverb and delay in the vocals channel. Wow! Big message! Sorry bro...thanks for the help.

Well, you've got computer with enough muscle to handle everything and you have all the software you need, actually... You have midi/audio sequencers and soft-synth stuff... so you can produce/mix on your loptop as is. Just dig into software. I can't speak details, 'cos I don't know these software... never used.
Now, if you want to add external analog mixing board and effects/or built-in , again you need muli-channel sound-card/system. Looks like you'll have to look into USB system(s). Check M-Audio products. They have couple usb multi-out (4 ins/outs)boxes, which also have midi in/out. M-Audio also makes pretty good midi key-controllers , cheaper than edirol.
If your computer has FireWire interface (or if you can add FireWire port), then it looks to me, that the most affortable way for you to get 8 analog outputs out your laptop would be M-Audio Delta 410 FireWire® Computer Recording Interface (around $400...not really cheap, but it's a good price for what you get), it has stereo (2) analog inputs and 8 outputs, also midi-interface and mic-line ins.... so you get pretty much everything you need for recording, producing and mixing with external mixer (live or for production in studio).

Now, if you don't want to deal with adding multi-out soundcard/system...then the only option for you to do everything inside-computer.... but for live manipulation, you need some control-surface. Now, I am not experience in this...but the idea is to use midi-controller's special units sliders, which are assigned to your software mixer's channels, effects etc.... all depending on sophistication of your software. I've never done myself this kind of works.... Those control-surfaces units are not cheap btw, example, JL Cooper CS-32 Minidesk Control Console is around $400, and I don't know how well it works, but the idea is there so you can control most audio programs from it, programs like Cuebase SX, MOTU Digital Performer, Soundscape REd, Cakewalk Pro/Sonar, SoundForge(Sony), Abelton Live, Logic Audio etc, I guess it must be somewhat pain in the as* to configure your program platform to work with sucha controller....

You might find these new Begringer products interesting - they're much lower in price than many other control surfaces (the rotory only one is the cheapest):

Neil :)
wow, behringer is simply 'unstopable'.... they are going to take over the market in its completeness...lol Is there any kind of music gear behringer still didn't put his hand/eye on ... ;-) ? Generally I kinda salute this company, cos their products are alright for the money.... but , oh'man-oh'man...they should never make strat-like looking piece of sh*t guitar and put 'behringer' logo on it.... this just plain suxxxx... :)
******
these controlers looks pretty cool...they maybe willbe also very cheap.... will see when they are out....

I consider a Peavey Raptor for a cheap guitar

89 euro at thomann.de many friends and test
shows these giving the best value in low-end
they normally cost around 150 euro and many
find them to perform better than other offers
even in the 300-400 euro department

arghhh, lol, yeah, Daniel...that's what I was talkin' about. I say: Uli did cross 'red line' there ..ha-ha. Well, he sure is a pioneer in keeping PeopleRepublicOfChina busy. ...to the seriousness of this, I must say this, I mean, it's allright to follow "principle" 'give people more for less' (blah blah) putting on cheaper labour production line the whole line of products, electronics ...or what have you, but when it comes to PLAYING musical instrument, then you MUST think twice before putting your company logo (and reputation) on it. So-so piece of gear in the studio is still a piece of cheap gear...no big deal. A bad playing instrument is another story - it's just totally useless piece of trash... see what I mean :)
*********
HM, Peavey cheap line guitars ar okey. BTW Squier line of guitars (and basses) are really great quality now...I mean for around $100 they are really top.... that's what modern technology does - machines can really cut well nowdays ..heh heh.
Speaking of Fender, standards all now made in Mexico. And I must add that Fender's factory in Mexico actually is a real deal and they make quality guitars, amps etc..., also not much cheaper.... ;-)

later, guys,

Hello. I'm slowly putting together a live dub set up and am thinking what equipment I should spend my hard earned on to enhance it.
Recently I performed a DJ set through Traktor while using my friends Korg Kaos Pad II. I highly recomend Scientist checks this out. For live effects mixing its brilliant.
