The bass is very low in the mix. Which is kind of odd for dub. I would count it as low in even a non-dub recording. And it has a very strange sound to it, like its doubled up somehow, come to think of it I wouldn't mix that sound in very loud either. And no low frequency bass oomph either.

You've got some other very nice sounds in there. They have a smooth lushness. Nice manipulations and playing of the guitar.

The drums are a bit woolly sounding. They need more punch and they sound a bit big and fat 80's like an old drum machine to me.

I think you could do with eq'ing elements in to their own frequency spaces - I think you have elements competing for the same sonic space which is clouding things. The mid-range sounds/reverb have too much bass end which could do with being rolled off.

I can very much imagine this turning into something very good in this if all the mix issues, and bass sound/part were dealt with.

I listened to the others - you have serious issues with distortion.
You need an equipment upgrade I think.
Your strength appears to be guitar.

i dont have a bass guitar so i use my normal 6-string guitar, but i use the 'whammy' function on my multi FX to change the pitch to an octave lower.thats why the bass doesnt sound right. The drum machine is shit as well,i dont have a proper one im using the drum machine on my multi FX which is very limited and sounds too cheesy, i really wanna get a new one. Im using a seconhand TASCAM portastudio to record the whole mix.Its hard to get a good sounding mix because there is only 2 eq buttons on the thing.

What drum machine would you recommend?

Thanks for the feedback,it was very detailed.Have you got any of your songs i could listen to?

Your'e doing well with a limited setup.

I guess you are lacking cash - but if you got a decent soundcard for your computer (I don't know if you have one of your own) you could do it all from within the computer (and be able to record you guitar into it). There is a lot of free/cheap software out there that could give you a much better setup than you have now. So if you had a fast enough computer all you would need was a decent soundcard.
Of course there's masses of commercial software.

I'm not familiar with drum machines really - there is a lot of drum software for computer.

Alesis have just launched a product that look to be a very good option for someone starting a computer setup
http://www.alesis.com/product.php?id=93

and might be of interest to the others on this forum.

They are multi-channel mixers with a firewire audio interface - at a very low price (for what you get). They come with a bundled version of CubaseLE.
There is a whole load of other product out there though, a lot of which has a free multi-track software included.

http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/win95/MULTITRACK_RECORDING/

This is the first page I cam across that has shareware multi track recording software, although the ones I had a quick look at aren't entirely free - they cost about £20 to use after the demo period.
I'm sure I could find more if I tried.
I don't know how good they are.

If you want to keep it hardware then a digital multi-tracker like this Zoom one might be up your street (seen on Google for £430)
http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/jan05/articles/zoommrs1608.htm

But one way or the other you really need, at the least, to address those bass and drum sounds. At the moment they are like a demo for bass and drums, rather than bass and drums themselves.
