Does anyone know about any Reggae or just underground/non-mainstream music shops in the Manchester City area.

Also any shops selling musical instruments and effects units etc., etc.

or good links to sites that deal with this sort of thing.

Manchester has the standard music instrument shops, where you can get plenty of stuff at standard prices. These are Forsythe's on Deansgate and A1 Music down Oxford Rd. But why not try Chase on Oldham St. about 5 min. from Piccadilly. They've got loads of gear at cheap prices. And of course there's good old Johnny Roadhouse on Oxford Road. I remember when the building was in so bad nick that you risked your life (and a very quick trip into the cellar) every time you ventured onto the rotting floorboards. Nowadays it's safer, and you still get a good buy. Check out their used gear. I've got several great bargains from here.
