what's wrong with LOZ? HM? I really don't know much 'bout lable or people who're in charge. Solomon must know better... I guess.
One way or the other, to my ear, what Solomon makes nowdays is a sort of treasure.... not to say that there's nothing like that in the market, but The Man sure got his brains focused :) and acts together...

How's E-MU thing doin'? Does your computer handle sampler well? Or do you use the sampler part at all?
I've got myself extra 8 analog outs from my computer ..heh heh, cheap ...on sale for $89 ...M-Audio 410..hah :) It works very well with Sonar thou... I have no complains so far...

LOZ is founded by Mark Mohr...
Ah, I know that... I've heard the Band, which sounds fine to me. I've read some stuff about Mark... nothing like a big deal. So what's wrong with Mark? Or is it something about the way he manages the lable/artists ... or does it have something to do with religion? Or what? What am I missing here? :)

I'll check the other board larter....

Religion is the short answer :-) He is doing the
US evangelical "propaganda",. by many viewed as
kinda "cultural imperialism", to make bad even
worse he do it in a "fake-rasta" style, he did
stop using the word "JAH" recently, but he still
is a big offence, some rasta sect/cult recently
did put a curse on him, and he was attacked by
the world famous artist "Buju Banton" who tryed
kill him with a knife in the hotel-lobby when he
did visit Jamaica, there have been an ongoing
controversie between him and Messian Dread also
MD has released a sceptical booklet, and Mr Mohr
has been very offended, all info is available on
the respective forums, I don´t support what Buju
did, but Mark Mohr makes me throw up sure, since
I did read about he´s "mission-trips" to jamaica
on hes own web 3-4 years ago, I call it ego-trip

As for what you are missing, well, nothing :-)

Anyway I respect Solomon as a skillfull artist,
just in bad compagny :-) judge for yourself :-)

And don´t reed the emu stuff if it bores you ;-)

Greetings,

In light of the discussion above, allow me to say this:

Please do not make the mistake of judging me by whom I associate with. I am not intimidated by people who believe differently from me nor do I waste my time trying to win arguments. I do not allow any organization, church, or denomination to determine what I believe. I have many disagreements with people who are in the church (and/or in the "Christian" music business) but I do not allow that to be a stronghold of division. I have many friends who don't believe what I believe and I consider them true friends. So do I agree with Mark Mohr on every issue? No, and that's okay. Are we friends? Yes. There is no contradiction. But don't try to place me in a box because I won't be there.

Blessings,

-Solomon Jabby

So all the "noise" has nothing to do with music, reggae, dub and sure has nothing to do with 'dub production' :). I see.
It's all about politics and religion. Understood.
So, then it's "Off Topic"? Or is it?
Otherwise, we would have nothing to talk about... nothing in common. We all have different political, religious and philosophical views.
I've said it before, reggae is highly politicized area. And for many 'artists' and producers reggae music is nothing more, than another convenient tool for their plotical activism. (this goes on in other genres and art-foms as well, btw). And thus, such individuals judge the art by its affiliation with political activism first (if not only). And thus, the value for such judgement is irrelevant, unless the topic of discussions IS politics, religion or philosophy. So, what is the topic here?

A side note: in my culture, individuals can have radically opposite political, cultural or(and) religious view and still remain to be close friends, work together, do business, play in one ball-game team or a band or even be married, be one family members.
From what I see and hear, I would not expect the same from all around the world thou... not nowdays, not in this world, not yet....

Well highly on-topic I guess, He announces a new
CD fine I consider buying it, then unfortunately
it seems that I am forced to use LOZ and honnest
It would feel like participating ina bad joke :-)

Guess "voting with the shopping basket" is well-
know also in US ? it´s very common in europe to
boycot f.eks. "NIKE" they make wonderfull shoes
shure, but they drive them workers like slaves,
they kill trade-union leaders etc. In the LOZ-
case there is another controverse going on but
the mechanism is the same, I think this feed-
back on a "free" market is essential, I would
even say it´s our responsibility, and when you
make use of controversial partners/methodes you
should at least not lower yourself into this
deffensive "box"-retoric,.. far out emotional

This aside I agree the reggae-scene is truely
sickening at times, and Buju behaviour is in my
opinion driven by black racism, like sizzla, or
these bobo-racists, one friggin violent and in-
tollerant culture, especially on the dancehall
scene, I noticed some Cappelton lyric: "hang
them, string them up" ,... Neither do I support
the homo-sexual lifestyle,.. but most certainly
I don´t "string up" people, if you check out
lyric carefully you will find un-expected shit
also in the root´s department, like Joseph Hill
from CULTURE singing hes devote taliban-support

btw. Solomons sound got my attention as
I am still in progress building a studio
drumset,.. I just recieved a 24" TAMA BD
from a ebay-action,... it´s just so damm
superior compared to the 20" I had, even
with a standard head, I should try to get
a little retro-touch on the drum-sound, I
don´t whant to take the full analog step
like Solomon but try to make a certain
touch of it, the 1820m is a part of this,
same 120 dB AD converters as in the big
pro-tools, this should allow for some
gentle DAW-proccessing ater the takes,
not that I expect to recreate the true
"tape-saturation" at all,... let´s see

At least I got a real spring :-)

Voting with shopping cart? Hah hah. Yes we do! Faithfully and all the time, I must add :)
And all it is - it's just for self-feel-good effect. Nothing wrong with it. It's an 'emotional therapy' for every single lonely individual. It's fun to do also. It is a sort of part of our every day entertainment, in a sense.
Does it do anything? hmmmmm....
Let's see, man... Just look around yourself. Look close... pay attention. Trace lables and parts and 'made in(s)' etc etc.... If you have any brains left, you will see pretty soon, that, regardless of where do you stand on various issues of life, you simply can't make a move without dropping a dime into "Devil's Pocket"... and Devil you seek - The Devil you see.... in your own creation of the World's image.

Now, here's the Guy... just an individual, who have spent a huge portion of his life searching for, collecting, setting up and care for a unique collection (set-up) of dedicated gear to really create a very specific kind of art. Then he works his way out to actually make it happen....
So he gets to the point of actually creating a somewhat unique work of art (music) .... and then what?
Did Sony Entertainment do anything about releasing his work? Nop. Nor anybody else. Nor You. Nor Me. Nor MD. ... nobody.
Mark Did, thou....
So you wanna hate Mark's bones. That's just fine. Go for it. Stay away for his site and store. What the heck. No biggy.
Now, picture this, man.... MD himself has used mp3.com for long time to get his music out. Now where did all the $$$$$ go from that 'enterprise'? Where did it go? Into what Devil's pocket? Playboy? Sephora? Honda? Eminem? Rolling Stone? Universal? ....ahhhh ...now we speaking big!
Even if you 100% self releasing your music ...right from your kitchen direct :)... you still buying media, equipment, using on-line charging system etc etc... and all this is a part of your distribution entity... .... who makes all these things? Who provides services, you are using?.... where do portions of the 'profit' from the whole proces go? You don't even know.... right?
Right. But this does not matter to You. Because if you don't know... then it's allright... it's OK, baby, ... you're all clean here ....heh heh :)

Well, man, what ever, I'm not trying to effect anybody's convictions here, really...

Can somebody point out in short terms what's wrong with Mark Mohr?
I tried to find out and to me it seems the controversy around him and Messian Dread is strictly about different shades of rasta -influenced christian belief.
Did I miss something? This alone for me is no reason for not buying Solomon Jabby's CD through him..

Daniel, "in short terms" ... no way possible :), as I can tell. This thing (their fight... or call it what ever) is going on and on and on since forever.

Rastafarism and Christianity is a bad chemistry mix to begin with and it is already enough controversial by default to spark any bif fire. Plus from person to person interpretations go freely.
If you add to the mix current world politics, escalation of cultural standoff(s) plus heating up racial tensions (which are not cooling down at all).... there you've got a real minefield.
A long-dreaded white boy, blending his face with Lion-King, singing about Religion, speaking out about his own vision and beliefs, putting Christ and Rstafari into one 'mutant-word' ...etc etc .... is really walking on fire-ground, you see? :) What would you expect.?

oh, well.
This alone for me is no reason for not buying Solomon Jabby's CD through him..
Yeah, sure.... if you personally are not into Deep religious beliefs, or are not possessed by hardcore cultural or racial prefernces, then there's no issues here at all...., but if you are, then all this may become a big deal... I guess.

I agree with Mike that a "short" answer is not
possible, there a several aspects involved, I
for one is disgusted by MM, but not for quite
the same reason as MD is,.... or Buju for that
matter, I don´t belong to a certain religion, I
even consider religion "un-holy" (man-made) ;-)

Messian Dread
Posted on Saturday, December 25, 2004 - 11:15 pm:

Greetings, I was pointed to this thread.

First, this site Interuptor is about music. I allways respected that by avoiding spiritually-based discussions and so I would not have posted here anything about my exposee on christafari.

If you will allow me one exception, a one time post to which I say, if anyone wants to reply, please do so in the following forum:

http://www.xsorbit1.com/users/mdread/index.cgi?board=crc

In short: would you buy Bob Marley music from the television preacher (the worst kind, the "give me money so god will give you money" types) or from Amazon?

They're both bad, and profiteering from artists, as I have indeed felt personally when vivendi stoly my honost-earned income.

The difference is that one uses the Name of Someone most precious to Me, My Creator, for financial profit.

Like telling people that "god" says not to buy music that he doesn't sell, and telling people to not buy Messian Dread and Yabby You but another artist instead cause he is a "true christian". Both things I mention happen to be facts (proof on http://www.xsorbit1.com/users/mdread/index.cgi?board=crc)

I you want to debate every word of this posting out with me, I am perfectly willing and able at
http://www.xsorbit1.com/users/mdread/index.cgi?board=crc

That's all, back to the music.
