Another reason to get a UAD card (I was already tempted, people really rave about them, but I really can't afford one) -

What upset´s me about cards like PowerCore and
UAD-1 is that they ties you to a specific piece
of hardware, furthermore the "real" plugs you
will soon need in addition is far to expensive,
(especially for powercore), but also all UAD-1
owner´s seems to agree that the cheap "intro"-
bunle does not reveal the force of the card, not
really, you will need the big bundle, and soon
one ot two cards more,....

Furthermore UAD´s and Powercore does not run
smooth and good in any hardware-configuration,
powercore is the worst, one example is that it
seem´s NOT possible to run with the EMU cards.

A lot has happend also in native plugs arena in
the last 24 mounths, Kjaerhus audio, PSP,.. and
Voxengo etc. is releasing killer plugs right
now, by many considered on-par to powercore or
UAD, and for reverb there is convolution also

Gennerally this has lead me to the conclussion
that building a pair of real monster-computers
and use fx-teleport would be a better way to go

These RE-201 impulses is already there I noticed

For the same power i would realy prefer not to
be tied to speccific hardware, and what happens
to this hardware, (soon the PCI-buss is ancient),
also being dependant on speccific written plugs
sucks, especially when they are so overpriced,

Fx-Teleport is not perfect, and fx-max has been
realy lazy to support and follow up, I don´t
have the highest expectations how it would run
in realtime with VSTi´s, but I know that with
G-Lan at least it is possible to build a ass-
kicking system for heavy effects during mix, to
run a Lexicon impulse on the seccond PC etc etc

So two killer PC´s is my bet, and it does not
need to be more expensive than these cards, and
far more usability might be achieved I just did
a PC based on a cheap Sempron 3100, but clocked
it 1800@2460 on a DFI NF3 with G-lan on board,
a perfect "teleporter" for 200$ + ram ,. (the
power of this beast smokes out even a A64 3500)

For the main PC I have a 2 x 4 Ghz Nocona-Xeon
in the pibeline, based on a PC-DL with mod-bios,

As for the plugs I have had luck with some great
group-buy´s generally at half price, for decent
EQ´s and compressors to replace the cubase-ones
I got the hole gold-series from kjaerhus:

http://www.kjaerhusaudio.com/gold-series.php

Furthermore Vintage Warmer and Nitro from PSP

For reverbs I will go Convolution with Voxengo

These are the cornerstones for now, and by many
considered better than powercore / UAD plugs

Just some thought´s ;-)

HM, I was just going through UA "systems" infos...and sort of got similar feeling about the whole thing. Without going through details, I'd simply say this: even if I need badly somthing like what these systems offer, I would not pay $400/$800 for trying out and see how it is especially for something, which seems to be 'self-contained'. It may be pretty good or may be just another so-so dsp option.... and then what?
Soft plugs are booming... there'll be more available. Today's computer's power - tommorow's joke. $880 buck for dsp card? tomorrow it will be a piece of junk. llots of problems and questions here.
In general, in today's world, it is a good idea to keep software and hardware as independent of each other as possible, or soon you'll end up with a jumbo box of useless cards, boxes, drives, intwerfaces etc, which you can not use, nobody wants and nobody care .... big box of sh*t, which cost as new BMW, but worth no sh*T :)

arghhhhhhhhhhhhh, I've already have collected some stuff. One day I just gotta say" It's Time!" - and put it out into the 'green container' for sanitation truck to pick it up. :)

That´s exactly the essense yes, if I build with a
PC-based teleported solution I can maintain it as
long as possible, and in the end I can transfer
and recreate the hole setup on new faster PC´s,
or simply just reconfigure, etc. all open-ended

Also I try to avoid Challenge Responsed Software

Only I falled into temptation and bought Sample-
Tank 2L due to an extremely good offer,.... ;-)

But other instruments,z3ta, Pentagon, Vsampler,
Halion 2.2 and all the effects mentioned is also
non-CR, Emulator-X need´s a emu card installed
but not nessesaryly used as main-card lucky so

This brings a situation where it´s down to PC´s,
mother-keyboard and midi-controllers, (I regret my UC33e, to be replaced with the new Behringer maybe), and then Microphone´s and preamps and REAL instruments not to forget,...

But these are things with long-term value

btw. I think that the PC-power that I got is
about to be enough for a long long time, so now
the system should be self-maintained and keept

HM

btw. did that powweb thing (just for FTP so far)

LOL,.. no great opening planned, just I signed
with the special 7.77$ each mounth offer and got
14 mount free, total 38 mounth, mainly to set up
a 2 GB FTP right now, and register the domain,
seemingly it works nice, did some test-transfer,
so far so nice, hopefully I will get use for the rest also, but first it´s pc-build and two
mixes,...

The Powweb hosting looks really interesting, I haven't looked into setting up a site before, but it's got me thinking now.
HM - did you 'shop around' before you chose Powweb? Are they to be recommended in comparison to other web hosters?
How easy is it to construct a decent looking site?

You are both probably right about the UAD card, not worth making a finacial effort for.

Hi Niel C

It´s to soon to say if all is OK, my other domain
http://www.dubtemple.com hosted www.surftown.dk
who uses an extremely easy online site-builder in
no time I got started, and the templates seem´s
nicer than the powweb ones, I have not yet tried
the "web-builder" at powweb though, but yes, I looked a little around and found this offer VERY
attractive, for the 2 Gb space and very high
traffic included, these two things is worth it
all alone, and what I needed pt, even more the
domain is included, certain trade option, and
option to set up a forum etc etc, but most off
all there is a very friendly forum, and powweb
staff do a great job here, see my initial post:
http://forum.powweb.com/showthread.php?t=44120

Are you into making a artist site ?

Thanks for the info.
Yes, I'm thinking of setting up a site for my music. It creates a good impression if you can say to people that they can go to your own site. I also want to be able to sell tracks, although I don't anticipate many sales.
