I consider to sell this, not much I could
expect, but then again some of the new
stuff like V-amp´s and boxes from line-6
could be found also cheap, and I have heard
very interesting effect´s done by these
multi-boxes, also for general dub effect,
so my question is if some of these "new"
boxes from last 2-4 years are especially
worth a try, for both guitar and evt. more

HM

HM, I'd recommend you to swing over FDP-board (fender guitar and more b-board discussion), here's link to home recording section: FDP boards home recording,
there look for vary related topics, there were number of topics on v-amp, line6, dirct boxes, effects and all sorts of discuassions on recording guitar.
In general I'd say all these v-amp like modeling boxes are just fine for home recording (or recording guitar in general), especially if guitar isn't really a highlight instrument (like in rock, blues etc...), then you'll be just fine with them.
From my experience, thou.... I've come to conclusion, that absolutely NON-nada-zippo , no digital modeling processor gets really naturally close to the sound of a real guitar amp, especially tube-driven, tube trmollo, real spring, speaker distortion, tube preamp overdrive.... this staff is just so much different in real amp comparing to any digital modeling. BUT!!!!! follow me here!, having said that, here a somewhat strange turn of things. Everything get not so straight forward when it comes to actually recording/producing your guitar tracks.
The problem is, that real amp sounds great, but to capture this sound, coming out of amp's speaker is VERY VERY hard job. I've heard/red so many comments from pros and home-producers, saying that it's pretty simple, just get couple mics, play around and you are set. This is one of the most common 'fiction'...or simply saying lie ... My guess, that this comments comes from guys who can't really hear the difference between the sound of their amp and the sound of what they get recorded ... (which very often very sh*ty sounding recordings).
So it comes to the point, that if you wish to get really something great out of recording your great-sounding amp, then get ready for a painful work and frustration plus you may end up spending a good amount of cash on good mics, mic-preamp and maybe even will be forced to actually get into analog tape recording (and you know what this means).
So, with a 'tool' like digital modeling box with direct out (direct to your computer's input).... you get recorded pretty much exactly what you hear, and this way the actual result of your work may be much better at the end. You don't get the sound of real amp, but you DO actually get wgat you get (meaning you get what you play and what you hear while playing), so it's much better at the end, than trying and failing to capture the sound of real amp, and again, I say it: you WILL! fail again and again and again...., you really gotta have some balls to keep working on it and not to give up, but man, if you get through and manage to catch the "fire-bird" flying out of amp's speker and swingin around in your record-room, then you get a real GOLDEN and one of a kind unique record, it's just very hard.
So, you gotta make choice here...which way to go

/later, man,
/respects,
/M Zee aka Dr ZEE

Hi thanks for the long and insightfull answer
I will return later, (I am to catch the bus),
and need to think it over some more, so far
your reply make me want to go deeper to the
topic, I am to do very little guitar, some
basic cords, in construction-phases mostly
for critical stuff and final guitar I will
call my brother always, he´s a guitar-player,
also therefor I just whant a peavey raptor
and an effect-box that can more funcktions
than just guitar, also I don´t want to invest
many money, I will sell all gear finally in
2-3 years from now if tings are not turning
into the better, and the rule I see is half
price when I trade my stuff, 89 euro raptor
is so cheap that i will not spend time look
for seccond hand offer´s, the pod or v-amp I
guess would make sense seccond hand, just I
would wish for a model that could do both bas
and guitar, its the same basic concept anyway,
(not that I like bass-effect that much)

HM

OK I missed the bus :-) so i digged the net

Think I go for THIS one

Assignable pedal for WAH etc that is essential
and usable in my case,.. I can´t figure if the
delay-time can be set otherwise than "tap"-ing
the pedal, after reading pdf manual confusion
is total :-( and how about adjusting for 1.832
mS with only two digits on the display ?

Otherwise this seems what I want, and for the
price I could live with only guitar-use for it
but parameters need to be programmable fully

HM

for $70 or so this one looks really great. I also know that there are couple similar units from other companies, I think digitech has similar modeling unit with pedal, but I think a bit more expansive.
I think you'll be happy with this thing. As for editing of presets....well, all these kind of digital multi-effect floor units are pretty much painful to edit. You have to keep pushing bunch of buttons in specific order, selecting parameter, then adjusting by 'step-push'...go to next parameter etc etc...pain in tha'ar&*s....and every time you get something you like...you must be careful to remeber to hit 'store'...

Now, on the thought of using this kind of unit as effect processor for dubbing/mixing ...hmmmmm, I don't know, man. It is possible, some effects may be useful, but don't expect too much. For the most , I guess, good thing is that you can easylly record some nice sounding clean guitar chord-chops/skanks, some rhythm string picks, muted picks...well, maybe some melodic leads... this is what you need for dub-tracks.
Making some serious guitar based music (like rock, blues etc) with sucha' unit is dead-end road, especially if you are trying to play some driven sustained leads/solos, or screaming distortions.... for this task modeling is sadly but trully SUCKs , ..really, well, you know what I mean.

drop a not if you get some unit... how is it...etc..

later,
/respects,
/mz aka Dr ZEE

I am very sure the delay can not be dialed in,
only taped by foot, this is crazy, I have been
looking for more expensive solutions, and found
Digitech GNX-2 seems the pro alternative,...

S/Pdif dir-rec + emu1212 get 4 x 24 bit ins tot
Full Midi Contoll and implimentation
Librarian and Editing software
Large Display
Better hardware
SIX buttons insteadt of 2
Microfone input for vocoder

Seemingly a multi-purpose solution that might
actually serve other funcktions, like mentioned
also if I get the new emu 1212 card having then
4 inputs insteadt of 2, my hammerfall is sold
now and I am stucked with a Prodif 192 card that
is not functioning optimal pt. so I consider the
emu card, but then gain that would force me to
go Win xp :-(
