Many guitar players have explained their skank technique over here.
None of them does mention a need for specific strings except for user "G" who writes:

Best guitar skanks you'll ever get are produced by "half-muting" the strings, just don't press all the way down the fretboard with your left hand (kinda like when you are tuning).
Downstrokes are best, and HIT HARD. Better use heavy gage strings too.
Hello. Thanks for your reply.
I have already read through those threads about technique. The reason I ask about strings is that Ive just broken one messing about and not having any spares, am required to buy some so was wondering if there were any particular type of strings that would sound good.
I have always used Ernie Ball Super Slinky (pink) strings and never experimented with other types.
Im thinking thicker gauge would be good? I was just wondering if there are brands i should look out for? Or if strings make little/no difference to the sound?
Thanks
Many thanks and nuff respect for this website and forum by the way. It seems quite unique on the internet! Ive found it incredibly useful recently and very interesting.
