Just wanted to say hello. I am the guy on eBay that produces these DIY kits. I just wanted to join the group to offer my help with any questions you may have while building the kits. I LOVE the builds that I have seen so far and I can't wait to see what you builders come up with next!

Thanks..... YES the Synare 3 is in the works. It will have the same sounds of the original. I will probably not design it to be a round standalone unit with a rubber pad..... but It will be a module with an input jack, so that you can use your own trigger. I have also been thinking about some external light, pressure, capacitance sensors, etc. etc. etc.

Then again I think just a simple clone of the original would be more than sufficient for the dub crowd.

Any other requests or suggestions before I start building?

Hi, i'm new to this site and audio electronics. I have enjoyed reading this thread and found it very useful as i've just completed my first Percussion Synthesiser MPC.

hi all does anyone know how to make it louder there isnt much volume when im put the sounds over a tune played ie dub reggae , even when its pluged into a line in on my mixer..

Never had that problem myself, maybe you could fix it by putting the synare through a small preamp?

there are 2 of these kits on ebay right now, second hand not from original seller.. looks like they could be going to be a bit pricey..

Hello folks. My first post in this forum.

I have one of the DS7 kits on its way to me .Got my work table all ready to start soldering etc..
Here's my inquiry....... Has anyone fitted a mains adapter to this kit before ?

I can run it from a battery but would like a mains power option without frying anything on the board. I'm not a circuit board wiz so i'm not going to risk new pcb's to find out but would be interested to know if it's possible.
Never really seen it mentioned before.

Hi

I haven't built this kit but as it seems it comes with a connector for a 9V battery block. This means you can supply it also with a universal power supply that can be set to 9V DC (DC = direct current as opposed to AC = alternating current)

Because this might be your first DIY-kit I add the folowing Safety Warnings. Please follow these:
Just make sure that you DON'T connect AC power from the wall outlet directly to the device!! First for your own safety and also because this WILL fry the kit!
Also be extremely cautious when working with AC POWER. Strictly switch on AC power after finishing work on the circuit and disconnect the power before touching the circuit again.

You remind me of when i was a kid & i had a universal power supply with a 4 way star . It stopped working so i changed the plug !

....

.....Thats right & when i picked up the 4 way star i took flight backwards accross my bedroom. Luckily, my bed was was there & i had a soft landing.......After the shaking had stopped, i switched off the wall socket.

Cheers, i'll try & source a 9v power supply.

I've read somewhere that one of the resistors can be changed to get a louder ouput. Anyone know the fix for that ?

Also i'd like to add the cv mod.

There seems to be a potentiometer UNDER the invader sticker on the cover of your box. What is this about?

If you're on about the black plastic thing, it's just the sensor pad/trigger stuck on with silicone.

A point worth noting with this kit though... The parts have obviously changed a bit since the original design. Notably the pots.

If you build this kit now with the pots issued, the shoulders of the pots sit way below the level of the edge of the pcb. This means that the pcb edge comes into contact with the underside of the faceplate of your enclosure before the pots make contact with it.

I had to screw down the nuts onto the washers to make up the level & then use six more nuts & washers from six other pots to screw on the outside of my tin lid. (Lucky i had 'em spare)

If you dont do this, you would end up stressing the solder joins as you tighten your pots down from the outside . They would actually try & bend inward on themselves.

I have emailed the guy about this but i don't know as yet weather he's recieved it.

Yes, actually it was a problem with the board depth . This has been changed on the latest board design. On the last board design you had to use extra washers position the board correctly. Sorry for the glitch...... but everything is proper now.

I just put together my Synare. I went for a simple look with some multi-coloured knobs and a basic wooden box that I constructed to keep it in. I have also followed ocoughi's advice and installed a 2nd 1/4” socket for external triggering, that bypasses the internal Piezo when a jack is inserted.

My Synare works great with the internal trigger and an external Piezo but I haven't been able to get it to work properly with a +5v pulse trigger from a drum machine, I know some people on this forum have discussed the possibility of it so I was just interested to see if anyone else has managed to get it to work yet.

I have been able to get mine to trigger with a Boss DR-110 running off batteries but when I connect the audio output of the DR-110 to the the same mixer as the Synare. the Synare ceases to trigger, obviously a grounding issue.

I have been told by the designer that I would need to isolate the output and trigger grounds to solve this issue but I just wanted to find out if anyone on here has managed this yet before I go poking around inside the board.

P.S. This is my first post on this forum so forgive me if I have missed the introductions thread but I couldn't see one.
