Recommended dub compilation albums?

Post by soulsurvivor » Mon Feb 10, 2003 5:09 pm

nice site.

I know very little about dub but Ive always been fascinated with the concept of stripping music down to the bare bones and letting inspiration take control in a live/un-rehearsed environment (at least this is what I understand it to be).

My attempts to start a dub collection have always gone a bit astray though. I bought a couple of Lee Scratch Perry compilations a year or two ago and although I really love the tracks there not exactly what I thought was dub. They mostly had their vocal tracks fully in-tact and very little use of reverb/delay as I had expected.

Can anyone recommend a good compilation albulm of dub that would be a good introduction to me. Thanks.

soulsurvivor
www.sladefx.freeserve.co.uk

Blood & Fire are the most roots revival label...
But perhaps the new Studio 1 can send to us new vibes...

Anyone have see STUIO ONE STORY ?? we can see both old and new studio. I think the new it's a big mackie but can't say what is old board..

KoCha

The best Dub compilation album I've heard is Dub Essentials.

The Trojan Dub Box sets volume 1 and 2 are great, and you get 3 cds in each one. Lots of brilliant music.

I've got the trojan dub box 2, its nice indeed, but not really good. I will look ouy for No1, hope its better, and more psychedelic.

Listen to: Linval Thompson's Dub story.
If you can find it!! It's GOOD. Its from the same period of scratch's No1 compiler: SWEET

For more modern dub, I'd go for Planet Dub on Mammoth Records - it's great.
Enjoy
