Vermona Retroverb Spring Reverb

Vermona shown at last Frankfurt Musikmesse a 1U rack which is a sprng reverb with a few bits and bots added… For the moment only the german text is available. But Vermona makes good stuff (I have a DRM1 MK2) There's a button that actually clashes on the springs ha ha!

The twin company HDB audio still makes a tube spring reverb TSR3

Just an update, they are still working on it, no date of release at the moment. :-/

Actually I talked with Thomas of Vermona a couple of days ago and he said, July. My worry is that it's gonna sound to clean. Regarding their filters, and phaser, I am found of German gear, especially Doepfer. But in all honestly their stuff is rather briddle and thin to my ears. I used to own the drum module and had to sell it. Very neat machine, but not usuable at all. It held up my production rather than enhanced it.

As I'm not into dub (but I value the info on this bord greatly <IMG SRC="http://www.interruptor.ch/cgi-bin/discu ... /happy.gif" ALT=":)"> it doesn't bother me. In fact I have the DRM1 MK2 and lurks over a PerFOURmer now. For fatness I have other stuff. In the coloured style the HDB audio version with tubes should be more appropriate.

apologies if this is common knowledge, but schneidersburo have some info on this thing - seems it's gonna have 2 pole lopass filter (presumably analogue), a 3 band eq section and a function to simulate the effect you get when you kick the spring reverb. maybe that was preliminary info vermona released which they've since has 2nd thoughts on and have gone for a more basic design, but still interesting nonetheless. <A HREF="http://www.schneidersbuero.de/english/newsset.html" TARGET="_top">http://www.schneidersbuero.de/english/newsset.html</A>

Hi Folks, We are a distributor for Vermona/HDB Audio and wanted to let you know that the Vermona Retroverb is now in production. Its not like the picture that is posted. It has been redesigned as a "stand alone" unit non rack mount. It's designs are very "Moogesque" with wooden side panelling. It features EQ, VCA & VCF as well as the "Crash" knob for banging the springs! The tube based TSR-3 is still available. Cheers GS www.gargantuansound.com

filter and envelope are switchable too ;) Played a little with it at an exhibit of analogue synth in Paris I was last WE for the Rendez-Vous Electroniques 2003 (patching modulars all day long and bringing some of my synths). The unit as displayed now on the Vermona site is retro looking, and a move from the precedent designs of Vermona : clear and stylish. The top can be used to put something else on like a small synth (MFB's or evolver would fit nicely) or stomp boxes. the thing is weird, the crash goes BANG, as we were demoing a lot of old and new stuff between concerts it was not the perfect place with people around and headphone quiet monitoring unavailable -the mixer was vintage too and peculiar…- but the results is loud and can be dramaticaly change with the filter and envelope. Unfortunately, no MIDI around, it would have been great for controling the filter and the envelope but definetly fun. But pedals in behind permit some control (on/off mostly, continuous control on VCF and VCA would have been a plus and half way to a MIDIfication) And it's build like a (spring) tank ;) really cool

Thanks for adding the picture I couldn't find a way to add one! Don't forget that there is CV control available for the VCA/VCF. I really like the design and think that more similar styled used may start popping up. I have some more nicer pics but don't know how to post.

I'ved used many spring and digital reverbs. The Vermona Retroverb is not ideal considering the price.I bought one because I got a cheap deal on e-bay. I messed with it a lot, running thru all kinds of effects and with pres and filters in front of it-stil-too clean and hard to get a nice splash like my Gibson reverb (a guitar head from the 60s intended for surf and rock) or a couple of Pioneer Home Stereo Spring units which I modified and got for free. The Vermona may be nice for vocals or cleaner studio apps but I think an old-school spring may give more of the effect one's looking for when using springs. I sold my Vermona on e-bay and don't miss it.
