Hi, I was wondering if there are a lot of dubmixes of bob marley songs? I went through my Tubby collection and the only thing I found was the baldhead dub (nice one), but do you think that's true? (that there aren't many dubs of marley songs?) And any ideas why? | ||

The only complete album of real Marley Dubs I heard of so far is the one by Bill Laswell which came out about 2 years ago. It's called "ambient translations of bob marley" or something like that. Besides that there is at least one rather obscure album by people who recorded the marley riddims themselves and made dubs of these riddims. The one I know is called "Exodus Dub". You might find it at a specialised store. Another Tubby dub of Marley can be found on "dub gone 2 crazy" on the Blood & Fire label. It's a dub of "time will tell". This one isn't an original marley dub either though.. somebody else's voice is heard in the vocal snippets.. it's still a wicked dub anyway! | ||

There's a Dub version of one drop about called 'one dub' and a dub version of small axe I used to have on tape but it got mashed up. Me I was abit dissapointed with the bill Laswell album - maybe I'm too purist | ||

many of the marley 45 singles on the tuff gong label had dub versions on the b-side. these haven't yet been collected onto 1 disc. i saw one BM 'dub' album floating around which was basically riddim tracks from the lee perry years circa '69 or so. | ||

I got the dub of "Duppy Conqueror" called "Ghost Capture" on Joe Gibbs......a sax version probably by Tommy McCook at a guess | ||

I have heard a lot of Bob Marley Dubs, the majority of them are not the heavy style that DUBfreaks like, they are more like the instrumental version with occasional Dub effect. But it is very nice to hear the tracks in a dubwise style. One Love, Messian Dread http://www.mp3.com/mdread | ||

you can hear very good dubs of marley made by lee perry on "jungle dub" wicked versions of their collaboration with sax solos and wonderfull fx and noises. | ||

Although the "Exodus Dub" lp is in the artist name "Chalawa", there's no doubt that the tapes being mixed are the original Marley cuts. Borne out by the text on the sleeve that reads something like "Thanks to the Wailers for the original master tapes" Although the dubs are fairly dry, it's a great album & well worth searching out!! | ||

"Soul Revolution II" is the version album of BM's "Soul Revolution", which is better known to some as the "Kaya" album ..it also has African Herbsman and Duppy Conquerer..produced by LSP in '70..Re-released by Trojan in a package "Soul Revolution 1+2"..Anybody have this? i would like to hear the version album. As well as the version sides of the singles..how come no one ever released those? jp | ||

Yeah, JAD are the label to check for Marley dubs. Some have been issued on vinyl, but many are on the Marley 3CD sets (there are 3 of them now); and also look out for Trojan Records Lee Perry meets Bob Marley & the Wailers 6CD set (yes, 6!), which has nuff version to pretty much all of the stuff the Tuff Gong recorded with Scratch. Trojan have also brought out a 12" with a wild long mix of Keep On Moving, and a new 10" of Rainbow Country and Natural Mystic, with extended dubs. | ||

Of all the tracks which Bob Marley did for Lee Perry, there are dubs, so look for Bob Marley/Lee Perry collaborations. When Bob Marley signed to Island, he left the traditional way of recording reggae, where the producer owns the tracks and versions it again and again. Marley (or probably Island records) didn't allow his songs to be versioned, so there was no need to make dubs. However, there are a few dub reworkings of his later tracks, sometimes as B-sides to singles, sometimes in an extended 12" mix. On 'Dreams Of Freedom" you can find a dub of 'One Drop' and on the Exodus reissue there are a few (nice) dub versions. Also check out the Lee Perry dubs. | ||

Also in the seventies a lot of artists did covers of Marley songs for more conventional producers, so most of the time there are dubs of that. CHeck out Trojan's 'Friends of Bob Marley' box set (I don't know if it's called friends of bob marley - check the trojan web site) which is 3 discs of Bob Marley cover versions with a lot of dubs | ||

Johnp had it right, the ones to really look for are exodus dub and I think there might be one more whole marley dub lp besides exodus put out on the micron label (uprising?), Ive seen em floating around ebay anyway, and I remember hearing the exodus one and it was real solid. check the seller rythmshack they had it a day or two ago! peace and good luck. | ||

There is an EXCELLENT dub of Exodus on Elektro Dub Orkestra's "Heavy Automatic" (an LP released by Mad Professor's Ariwa studio in the 80s). I have it and I deffo recommend it. | ||
